Hi everyone, i decided to do a bridal post, its been awhile since my last one. I've noticed that most wedding gowns are made without having the plus-size woman in mind. Sometimes it seems like all the pretty gowns come in strictly small sizes. Have you ever gone bridal gown shopping and you just didn't know what gown fits your figure? Well don't settle for less, it's your day, and no matter what size you are, you can look good. If it's still a long time to your wedding, and you want to lose some kilograms before your wedding, that's fine, but if not, i've put together some tips that'll help you find the perfect dress for that perfect day:
1. KNOW THE STYLE THAT SUITS YOUR FIGURE
If you are busty, a V-necked gown (it shouldn't plunge too deep though) can help give a vertical contrast to your full bust, making you look well put together and stunning. Ball gowns would make you look rounder, and as such should be avoided, whereas mermaid gowns show your curvy figure and A-line gowns rest beautifully around the hip region. Avoid alot of gathers, pleats and ruffles too.
2. AVOID TUBE GOWNS
A great deal of plus size women don't know this, if you have loose skin, or very large arms, or your arms and shoulders aren't firm, tube gowns expose alot of flesh, making you look larger than you really are. It makes the shoulders and arms appear wider and gives you the "Johnny Bravo" look. You can go for lacy sleeves, short sleeves or long. For those that like the jacket trend (though it's now really common, and so isn't a personal favorite), it's another way you can wear your gown.
3. GET YOUR EXACT SIZE
A lot of plus size brides settle for a size or 2 bigger gowns, because of the popular notion that bigger clothes conceal body imperfections, THAT'S WRONG! A curvy body shouldn't be concealed, it should be celebrated just like any other. So when selecting your gown, don't go a size below or above, pick the perfect size, and if you feel its not perfect enough, a skilled tailor could alter it to suit you perfectly.
4. BE "AT HOME" IN YOUR DRESS
Comfort is very important in fashion, a 6-inch heel is only glamorous when it's wearer knows how to "walk" it. As much as you want to look pretty on your wedding day, you should also feel comfortable. Don't wear a gown with a very tight corset, we don't want the metals eating into your skin, don't wear anything that you'll have to keep adjusting, cos this would make you sweaty and would eventually stain the gown. Make sure your dress is comfy enough to eat, dance, walk and take pictures in with ease. If it isn't, consider changing the style and/or size.
5. BE PATIENT, NEVER SETTLE
Finding the right dress may be difficult, but dont just give up and settle for just anything. take your time, try them on till you find that one dress that screams your name.
